BNA General Meeting Minutes
September 12th, 2005

-Everyone introduced themselves.

-Announcements about meeting time for safety committee/ safety concerns. Announced day and time of hope and hard work

-9-21-05- 6:30pm Meeting at Mississippi Ballroom for Kirisu. They have been building gardens for Healthcare/Hospitals. Want to build space for themselves and open it up to the community as a amenity for the community. Want to opinion/open forum from community because it will touch upon the alleyway and some peoples homes.

-PDC is looking for a representative from Boise of Vanport Project to decide what people want to do with this area. There are meetings once a month at OAME 6-8pm

-Artist starting project in community – Dovetail sending postcards to 800 homes, her goal is to make art accessable to everyone.

-Ana from BTA- has project with 8 elementary schools in Portland area. Ana is coordinator at Boise-Eliot school. Tues. Oct 25 is International walk/bike to work day. Looking for volunteers to walk and bike with students to school.

-Announcment- Talk about taking out traffic light and putting in a 4 way stop. There is some concern about this because of the development that is anticipated in the neighborhood.

- Nomination of Chris Brown to be co-chair because of Nicoles anticipated absence for next 2 meetings. Seconded by Kay and approved with no abstentions/no

-By-Law update- City approved charter requirements; Boise neighborhood officially not in compliance.

2. Vote: Discussion about whether this change should be adopted; Nicole W. moved that it not be accepted. All in favor, no opposition

-Drug Free Zones-
Brett Smith, Commander of NE precinct
Jim Hayden, Neighborhood DA office
- every three years go back out to the community and talk with people about drug free zones. Gave a history of drug free zones (DFZ). Started in early 1990’s with support for DFZ. Gave some history on Boise neighborhood; people were asking for drug free zone here; with neighborhood support, 2 DFZ’s (Alberta and boise) were started in 1997. Hayden explained what is involved with exclusions/variances. Presentation about proposed changes to DFZ boundries in old town and boise. Hayden and Smith addressed/answered a lot of questions/ clarified how variances work/ have been improved upon.
- Nicole W. made motion that we support drug free zones, seconded by Kay.
- Suggestion made to have BNA sned letter of support.
