Landmark mural to be restored

Local artist Tom Cramer, deemed "perhaps Portland's most widely seen artist" by the Oregonian, painted this mural called "Machinery" in 1989 at the corner of N Shaver and N Williams. After 14 years, the mural’s bright colors have faded signficantly, the paint is peeling and cracking, moss is growing in the cracks, and large pieces of paint are falling off. Metro Murals, a nonprofit arts resource for community murals in Portland, is planning to restore the mural during the month of May. Contributions to cover restoration costs are still being sought.
