Boise residents peering out their windows or sitting on their porches on the morning of Saturday, May 10 might see a line of kids’ theater supporters walking through the neighborhood
The Art & Soul 5K, a fundraiser benefiting N/NE Portland students and families involved in the Higher Stages Arts Academy, a program of Tears and Joy Theatre, winds its through North Portland from 9:30 a.m. to noon on May 10 and includes part of the Boise neighborhood. From the starting point at Peninsula Park, about 75 walkers are anticipated to stroll down Vancouver Avenue, cut west on Shaver Street, and then north on Mississippi Avenue on their way back to the park. At the end of the walk-a-thon, there will be a picnic, music and entertainment in the part, and a Tears of Joy Theatre puppet show.
Mississippi Avenue businesses are planning to set up a water station near the corner of Mississippi and Shaver to support the walkers and their cause. The Higher Stages Arts Academy is an arts-based success program with a mission to support teachers, parents and artists in addressing the social, emotional and educational development of students. Academy students are involved in challenging experiences with professional artists in the crafting and performance of art. The intention is to promote high self-esteem and academic success through the development of both craft and life skills.
